Gebrüder Weiss, the transportation and logistics firm, has recently expanded its logistics operations at the Dunaharaszti site near Budapest. The newly developed logistics center spans 10,000 square meters and encompasses office spaces, handling facilities, and a high-bay warehouse. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for storage capacity from its clientele while also consolidating all Home Delivery services for the greater Budapest area. The total investment for this project amounts to approximately 25 million euros.
According to Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, the expansion in Budapest signifies a strategic move to accommodate future growth. With industrial production on the rise, particularly in sectors such as automotive and electrical, the need for efficient transportation and logistics services is expected to surge in the upcoming years. Gebrüder Weiss recognizes Hungary’s role in connecting various markets in the region, making it a crucial hub for transporting goods across Europe.
In line with its commitment to innovation, Gebrüder Weiss has implemented smart technologies to enhance operational efficiency. The existing logistics facility has undergone modernization, with the introduction of automated systems like the AutoStore system for inbound storage, material flow, and picking. This automation not only saves time and space but also improves energy utilization. Additionally, advanced tools such as Cargometer cameras and 3D scanners are utilized to optimize space utilization by accurately measuring the size and weight of packaged items.
Furthermore, Gebrüder Weiss is prioritizing sustainability by incorporating renewable energy sources and zero-emission delivery solutions. A significant portion of the energy required for the facilities and electric vehicles is sourced from a photovoltaic system with an output of up to 354 kWp. This renewable energy is utilized to power e-vans used for home delivery services, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 12.5 tons per month.
With a presence in Hungary since 1989, Gebrüder Weiss operates full-service logistics across six locations, including Budapest, Győr, Zalaegerszeg, Pécs, Szeged, and Polgár, employing a workforce of 450 employees. The company plans further expansion in 2026, with the construction of a new logistics facility in Győr, underscoring its commitment to meeting evolving market demands and sustaining growth.
