JCB is preparing to bid farewell to its primary logistics hub located in Stoke-on-Trent, as it gears up to transition to a more expansive location near East Midlands Airport.
The current Stoke-on-Trent warehouse, which accommodates over 200 employees, will undergo a shift, with all affected personnel being offered relocation options, announced the construction equipment giant.
Having served as the cornerstone of JCB’s logistical operations for the past decade, the World Logistics facility finds itself constrained, capable of storing just half of the parts required by the UK factories. Recognizing the unsustainability of operating across multiple storage sites in the long run, JCB has opted for a strategic move.
By early 2025, the company aims to vacate the warehouse premises near Tunstall.
A spokesperson for JCB highlighted that the current facility was established in 2014, coinciding with a surge in production that has nearly doubled the output of manufactured machinery. Consequently, the warehouse has operated at maximum capacity for the past five years, necessitating the utilization of supplementary storage sites.
The imperative for a larger facility is paramount, asserted the spokesperson, underscoring its significance in accommodating the firm’s future expansion initiatives.
The relocation strategy entails consolidating warehouse operations at the East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park.
Regarding the transition process, the spokesperson emphasized ongoing collaboration with logistics partners and engagement with affected employees and the GMB Union to explore redeployment prospects.
As JCB embarks on this move, it endeavors to seamlessly navigate the transition, ensuring continuity in its logistical operations while laying a robust foundation for sustained growth.
