Scan Global Logistics has initiated a decade-long Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Better Energy to secure renewable energy in Sweden. This partnership facilitates the development of a new solar park near Studsvik, ensuring a sustainable energy supply for Scan Global Logistics’ facilities throughout Sweden.
Based in Denmark, Scan Global Logistics is furthering its sustainability objectives by integrating renewable energy into its Swedish operations through collaboration with Better Energy, leveraging a Swedish solar park.
According to Martin Andersen, Global Head of Sustainability & ESG at Scan Global Logistics, the PPA with Better Energy for renewable energy procurement in Sweden represents a critical element of their sustainability strategy, contributing significantly to the green transition. He expressed enthusiasm about expanding their partnership into Sweden, highlighting this as the second solar park from which they are sourcing renewable energy.
Supporting solar energy growth in Sweden, the PPA facilitates the establishment of a new 23-hectare solar park near Studsvik, projected to generate 25 GWh of renewable energy annually, enough to power over 4,000 Swedish homes. This solar park, anticipated to be operational by late 2024, aims to become one of Sweden’s largest.
The Studsvik PPA strengthens the existing collaboration between Scan Global Logistics and Better Energy. In 2022, the two entities, along with 12 other companies, participated in one of Denmark’s inaugural multi-partner PPAs with Energi Danmark, sourcing renewable energy from Better Energy’s Badskær Solar Park. This agreement supplied green energy to Scan Global Logistics’ expansive facilities in Jutland, encompassing a 70,600 square meter warehouse and six offices.
Mikkel Thorup, Senior Director of Power Purchase Agreements at Better Energy, noted the satisfaction in expanding their partnership with Scan Global Logistics from Denmark to Sweden. He emphasized the necessity for businesses of all sizes to commit to sourcing the most sustainable electricity available, illustrating their commitment to providing practical and attractive energy solutions across various markets.
